SHOE CARE

Your Melbourne Cup Shoes will race on

Your Melbourne Cup Shoes will race on after the cup to Oaks Day and beyond by you giving them some care. Predicting Melbourne's weather for the local and the visitor alike, can be a bet in itself, as any day at this time of the year can have all four seasons. Having determined the dress, the hat, the bag and the shoes give some time then to the care of your shoes. Gorgeous as they are keep them that way by:

  • Waterproofing the surface of the shoe. For best results select a waterproofer designed for the material from which your shoes are made - full grain leather, suede, nubuck, cloth, highshine leather, patent leather, or oily leather.
  • Polishing your shoes. For best results again select a polish designed for the material from which your shoes are made - full grain leather, suede, nubuck, cloth, highshine leather, patent leather, or oily leather. Remember if you use the wrong polish you will alter the look of your shoe, which you have spent so much time considering in your purchase. For example the high shine leather is not the same as patent shoes and you certainly would not use the polish you use on most school shoes on your high shine!
  • Preparing for the ongoing care of your shoes. The lack of predictability of the weather and the predominance of gorgeous shoes at the Cup means that with an awareness of what to do when they get mud on them for example will ensure your shoes will race on! Shoes made from different materials can be cleaned with a brush and shampooed with a leather or textile shampoo back to their original condition. The secret is to care for them from purchase and be ready and act with the appropriate shoe care sooner rather than later.
  • Being sure the fit is correct for both feet. Your comfort may well be improved with the use of a half innersole or a heel grip. You may even need to have those delicious straps made a little tighter or a little looser!

Talk to your Shoe Repairer about your Melbourne Cup Shoes before the race so they will race on to Oaks Day and beyond looking just as gorgeous!

Also Talk to your Shoe Repairer about your shoes which are still running from last years Melbourne Cup so they are ready for the line up for this years Cup and then also ready to race on to Oaks Day in 2001, and beyond looking just as gorgeous!

The options you can consider for those racing shoes are:

  • Renovating your shoes with a good quality polish
  • Re-coloring your shoes by your Shoe Repairer to match your outfit or you can buy quality materials and re-color your own shoes
  • Re-covering your shoes by your Shoe Repairer

Race on shoes!
