Most leather soles are ‘vegetable-tanned’ which means they are easily damaged by heat. The danger is especially great when the leather is wet. Heat damage may not be immediately obvious on the surface of the soles, but it will seriously affect their life. Wet shoes are the most easily damaged, but shoes worn under normal dry conditions can also contain enough moisture to suffer by heat damage.
